Odd Directions and A New Brand of Superhero
This post has to do with funny things I heard this week:
1) "Sit down on your bum and be a lady!"
2) While playing a game with the Bear, he collected a protective shield for his player. "I'm SHIELDO THE KID!"

Toenail Ice Cream

You may want to check your barf mechanism on this one.
Several years ago, before the dawn of DramaMama, a buddy and I frequently played network computer games. We would go to the store first to get goodies to eat while we played. We soon settled on our favorite items which turned out to be pumpkin and chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream.
My friend was rather fond of a particular flavor produced by the Girl Scouts called "Thin Mint". Now all of you Girl Scout cookie lovers know how fabulous that flavor is.
One day as we were choosing our ice creams at the store, the topic came up of just how many Girl Scouts were in this Ice Cream? Being guys of the single persuasion, we couldn't just leave it at that. We were soon practically rolling in the aisle bantering back and forth about lips and eyeballs and the like.
By the time we left the store, Girl Scout Thin Mint Ice Cream and been re-christened "Toenail Ice Cream".
A couple days ago as I was cruising through Osco, I saw a container and had myself a fond reminiscence. I of course bought it and shared it with my family.

The Gospel according to the Bear

I have a couple to share this time. The Bear has been on a roll.
We have been attempting to teach The Bear the Primary songs from church. One of these is called "Follow the Prophet". I guess I really have two with this one, then another one.
The other day The Bear was playing a computer game ridding the galaxy of fouldom when he start singing Follow the Prophet. "Follow the Prophet" BOOM BANG POW "Follow the Prophet"...
Yesterday The Bear and I were working on his rear end for cleaning purposes, when he belts out "Follow the poopy, follow the poopy!"
I tried very hard not to laugh at that last one, but I could not help myself. I laughed long and hard.
Just a few minutes ago, The Bear and I were playing the same boom bang pow game, and while I was taking a turn, he was being overly wiggly. I asked him to stop a number of times, and ended up having to move him to the side for a minute.
When I picked him up again, I gave him a big hug.
Bear: "How come you gave me a hug when you told me to stop wiggling?"
Dad: "Because Jesus says that after you act mean to someone, you have to give them loves!"
Bear: "DUH!"

You Talkin' to Me???

I can go two ways with this post. Tell you all how I feel, or share another Bear moment.
I guess I'll do both... First the unpleasantness:
I feel a lot like that guy looks... A whole lot of "go away" written all over my face.
I am weathering a severe bout of job burnout. I am so buried that I sometimes want to go nuclear on some people's hind parts. I lately have had little or no desire to even go to work. There are so many things I need to get done with my own little company, and unfortunately, they are very similar to the things I do at work all day. This of course compounds the burnout.
I have had a couple of those projects that just dont want to allow themselves to be completed. One problem after another, and a couple hour job has turned in to a couple week job. There is a high level of frustration in all of this. I am expending all of my energy for some other guy's business, having little or none left for my own.
Now, enough of that...
The Bear and I were playing what he calls "The Different Mister Noodle Game", when he really means "Ludo" which has no real connection to the game other than I gave the characters in the game names from the Harry Potter books. So anyway, he was playing along, and in a singsong sort of voice said, "Bad guys... where are you?"

The Food, The Fat, and the Fruggly

Over the past several weeks, I have felt as though a giant crap-beast has been dumping on me at work. I have had so much to do that I often have missed lunch and have worked late. I have gotten a lot done, but it's much like a river... it just keeps a comin'.
So... needless to say, (but I will anyway) , I have been very tired for a very long time, and have little energy and patience upon arriving home.
I try to find solace by escaping to my office where I can think, relax, and perhaps write. But, and it's a BIG but... My five-year-old shadow follows me right in and wants to play a game with me on my computer.
This is fine I suppose, but there is rarely a time when I sit at my computer that this does not happen. I have tons to do at home as well on my own company, my brother's website, and a handful of other projects I am working on.
The Bear shows up and wants to play, and I am put in the situation of deciding whether to make him cry or not by insisting that I am going to get some work done. He is a special little guy, and doesn't yet understand why we cant play all day long on the computer.
These long hours have made me look more like that dude above. I usually have breakfast running out the door, and driving to work. I miss lunch about 50% of the time. I get home from work, and pig out. Being wiped out from the day, I look for the fastest and easiest thing to shove in my face, and it usually isn't something healthy.
I actually have been much happier lately, but I am just wiped out tired all of the time, and my head gets full of buzzing icky goo, and doesn't want to deal with anything more.
I have for the most part stopped writing because of it. I very much want to continue my books, but most of the time I sit at the computer, and my brain vomits and says 'no more for today'.
So downstairs I go to find something to shove in my face. American Idol with a frickin' big bag of chips.
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

The Prayer of a Budding Computer Geek Bear

We returned today from our 6th anniversary weekend outing to an inn in the mountains. (More on this tomorrow). The boys stayed with their Grandparents.
The Bear, not being used to an extended visit without Mom and Dad, became rather sad.
Today we met Granddad halfway between his house and ours to collect the boys. The Bear was very excited to see us.
I just read him a couple books and said prayers with him. After I was done, he said, "You forgot to bless that my Gameboy will be all charged up."

Teenagers say the strangest things!

Last night was our family Christmas party. We had about 20 people there and had a very nice time.
At one point we were playing the game called Catch Phrase, and the new word was described as:
"When you go to the bathroom you...", then they made a flushing motion.
In true teenager fashion, DogHouse Boy piped up, "Pinch a loaf?"

Generation C - The Computer Generation

This morning as I was happily battling in Battle of the Blogs, the Bear hopped in on the older computer behind me. He is very good at finding his own games, (except Dot Com which means he wants to play on playhousedisney.com).
He brought up a game and was playing along when I hear, "You go live with Jesus! You too Buddy!"

He Lives in a Pineapple Under the Sea
I spent the morning writing at my "black" computer, while the Bear sat at my side playing his "Little Critter" game on the "white" computer.
"Whatcha doin' Daddy?"
"Daddy's writing a story."
"What about?"
"Its about a couple of boys."
"Is it me and Jamesie?" (His older brother aka the Bug.)
"No, its a boy named Patrick, and a boy named Smudge."
"Who's Patrick?"
"Just a boy Daddy made up."
"Patrick like on Sponge Bob?"

Just more wierdness
A poem
by CheezWeezil
Each day as I sit at work,
and take orders from a frequent jerk,
I dream of the end of the week,
when I become a computer game geek.
At last the jerk gave me some praise,
and even gave me a raise.
Now I can save some of my pennies,
So the fam can go eat at Denny's.

A brief explanation
CheezWeezil...
Believe it or not it had it beginnings in an episode of the Simpsons. The one where Goundskeeper Willy was teaching French, and said, 'Bon Jourrrrrrrrrr ya cheese eating surrender monkeys!"
After several hours of playing network StarCraft with one of my buddies, we got a little giddy, and somehow "Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys" evolved into Cheese Weasels, which with a little spelling tweak has been my screen name ever since.
It used to be Barfniki. :)
